Appleberry crisp

A delicious recipe low on sugar and high in flavour, this Apple and Blueberry Crisp recipe is sure to please at your next gathering or a weekday treat!


  • 4 medium-sized apples, peeled and diced (4)

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries (500 mL)

  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar, divided (30 mL)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (5 mL)

  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch (15 mL)

  • 3/4 cup rolled oats (175 mL)

  • 1 Tbsp wheat germ (15 mL)

  • 1 Tbsp canola oil (15 mL)

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (1 mL)


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine apples, blueberries, half the brown sugar, vanilla, and cornstarch. Place the mixture into a 2 quart (2 L) baking dish.

  3. In a second bowl, combine rolled oats, wheat germ, canola oil, cinnamon, and remaining brown sugar. Sprinkle crumb mixture over fruit.

  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the fruit is bubbly. Remove from oven and serve with your favourite ice cream, whipped topping, or on its own!
