Savoury & Sweet Brussel Sprouts

One of the best ways to spend the Thanksgiving holiday is with food! Along with the traditional turkey or ham and mashed potatoes, this delicious side dish is sure to please! Now, you might think that Brussel sprouts are an acquired taste for many people, however, combining it with sweet maple syrup and bacon?! I mean, c'mon, who doesn't love bacon!? (of course, for my vegetarian and vegan friends, this recipe is still delicious without!)

Roasted Brussel Sprouts

Serves 4 - 6 people

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Brussel sprouts, ends removed and halved

  • 4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

  • 2 tbsp grainy mustard

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • ½ tsp salt

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 425ºF.

2. In a small bowl, combine balsamic vinegar, mustard, maple syrup, olive oil and salt.

3. On a large pan or skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate.

4. In a large bowl, toss the sprouts in the vinegar mixture and add in the bacon.

5. On a baking pan, lined with parchment paper or foil, spread the Brussel sprout mixture, making sure they are evenly spaced and not too crowded.

6. Roast in the oven for approx. 20 minutes or until you see the edges start to sear and sprouts become softened. About halfway through the cooking time, turn over the sprouts to ensure an even roast.

7. Transfer sprouts to a large serving platter or bowl. Serve and enjoy.
