Strawberry Smoothie

One of the best ways to incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into our diet or the diet of our senior loved ones/those in our care is by making them into a puree or smoothie drink. It's not just simple to make, it tastes delicious and is easy to consume, especially when meal time and proper nutrition are a concern.

Strawberries are still in season here in Ontario and a refreshing way to keep cool on these warm summer days and get much-needed vitamins and minerals is with this delicious strawberry smoothie!

Strawberry Smoothie

Adapted from Foodland Ontario.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (500 mL) Ontario Strawberries, hulled

  • 1 cup (250 mL) Ontario Milk

  • 1 cup (250 mL) low-fat strawberry-flavoured yogurt

  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) Ontario Honey

  • 4 ice cubes

  • 4 Ontario Strawberries

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine hulled strawberries, milk, yogurt, honey and ice cubes;

  2. Process until smooth, then pour into chilled glasses.

  3. Garnish with fresh strawberries and serve immediately.

Tips: Buy local strawberries when in season; wash and remove hulls. Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet; transfer to freezer bags and store in the freezer until ready to use. Omit the ice cubes in this smoothie and use frozen strawberries.
