Butterflies are known for their colourful beauty, delicate wings, and the artistic natural symmetry of designs. So, we thought it would be fun to try and replicate that beautiful symmetry using paint in this art activity!
Butterfly Symmetry Painting
Materials
Card stock or craft paper
Craft paint of various colours
Paintbrush or Q-Tips/cotton swabs
Butterfly template
Scissors
Instructions
Print and cut out the butterfly template we provided, or draw and cut your own design!
Using the paint and paintbrush or cotton swabs, dab colours thickly onto ONE side of the butterfly image.
Gently fold the craft paper along the centre line body of the butterfly.
Gently press the sides down with your fingertips. This will move the paint between the paper sides.
Carefully open up the butterfly shape revealing the colourful and symmetrical design!
Lay flat to dry
