Fruit Flavoured Ice Cubes

Many seniors have difficulty getting the proper hydration they require each day. Some may opt for juices, coffee and sugary drinks, but water is a key ingredient to proper health and digestion, but many older adults find it lacking flavour and lose interest in drinking it.

This is where fruit flavoured ice cubes come in handy! Not only are they easy to make and pretty to look at, but also provide the much needed flavour boost to any glass of water! Have the fruits whole or pureed, the recipe is simple!

Here's what you need to make these cool and refreshing flavour boosters:

  • Fruits (some great options are blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, and apple)

  • Distilled or sparkling water

  • Ice cube tray

  • *Option: freeze fresh mint for added flavour!

Here's what to do:

  1. If using whole fresh fruit, simply dice or chop the fruit, or combination of them, into small pieces.

  2. Divide evenly in ice cube trays (about a teaspoon depending on size of the fruit)

  3. Fill ice cube tray with distilled or sparkling water and freeze for at least 4 hrs before using.

  4. If you would like the fruit pureed, use a blender to puree the fruit and place in the ice cube tray. Freeze as is for at least 4 hrs before serving.

  5. Serve the ice cube trays in a tall glass of water and enjoy the subtle release of flavours!
